“Prepare the child for the road and not the road “Prepare the child for the road and not the road for the child.” After the last typhoon, I took @elijahbonifacio with me to buy some medicine and show him the damage (and our area was nowhere near as bad as the other places). He asked me, “Are the trees dead?” I told him, “It looks like some are. That typhoon was strong!” He said, “I’m stronger!” I smiled to myself, “Yes, you are. But you need to get stronger because there are bigger storms up ahead.” “Bigger storms???” He asked. “But none that will be stronger than you.” I said. “Really?” He said, looking like he needed assurance. “Well, that will be up to you.” I told him truthfully. “I’m strong.” He finally said. One of my projects this year is being very purpose One of my projects this year is being very purposeful about my possessions. I think one of the roadblocks of a great society is an Ethic of Possession instead of an Ethic of Impact. Any society that is more preoccupied with the accumulation and preservation of possessions than the creating, scaling and sustaining of value will lead to gross inequality. But when I look back to when I had very little possessions, and how great it was to not be so preoccupied with caring for, storing, and upgrading so much stuff, I am reminded to return to there, to seek to produce so much impact not that I may posses more, but that I may impact more. So I mapped out my weekly activities and limit my things to those that support these activities and fit in this bag. This exercise has shown me how much stuff I have that may be nice to have but can be without. When you take time to really be mindful about what healthy 2000 calories really look like, what things really help us produce amazing things, and what essentials really help us stay well, you'll probably find what I found: they look nothing like your unreflected desires, they are simple and within reach, and, for the most important things, like air and love, you already enjoy them. . . . #DB #DBthoughts #simplicity #impact #production #highimpact #quality #life #essentials #things #essentialism #bag #equipment #success

Pretty much ALL my plans were wrecked this year, and much of my carefully planned security wasn’t realized, BUT I realized this: I’m healthier. I’m back to my cherished simplicity. I know who my partners are and I know the character of those around me much better. I spend more time with my family. I have gotten better at being present in the moment. For me, this crisis has really revealed a lot, particularly about the important of who to rely on, who you can rely on, when crisis hits.
