Post-Run Mush • @yasminperucchetti makes me my f Post-Run Mush • @yasminperucchetti makes me my favorite muesli with a lot of nuts and seeds, oats, raisins and cranberries, no sugar, no sweeteners, and baked in coconut oil, mixed with Greek Yogurt. When I asked her to compute the per serving cost and the macros, she just made a face and said, “You do it. I’m not the one trying to lose weight.” 😂 She has some of the funniest answers. When I asked her if she could see abs on me, she just said, “Hmmm… I can see mine.”😂 Or when she found out I had a Facebook Fan Page, she laughed and said, “Seriously??! You really have a fan page?? That’s just because they don’t really know you!” 😂 I’m very fortunate to have my wife. I find her comments to be super funny. Notes: - I find that I’ve been going back to these 4 books, reading different parts that trigger a rabbit hole of thoughts. They are Sapiens, King’s Cross (now called Christ the King, I think), Scale, and Dominion. - For me, I read to enjoy, understand, and expand. I thoroughly enjoyed these 4 books, they helped me understand old and new things better, and they expanded how I look at things. - Even with books, our consumer mentality sucks the possible value of the text. The best book you can read, the one you should read, is the one you already have NOT the one on a best seller’s list or on another person’s shelf. I’ve had these books for years and I still draw so much value from them! - That blister of golden capsules is Issho Genki Squalene. I probably take this more than anyone in the world. My supplementation is super simple: nutrition from food as much as possible, a multivitamin, Squalene, creatine, and protein. I don’t use any pre or post workouts, any special cocktails, or anything that’s confusing.

Overall, a really fun time but popped a blister on my right big toe which is never nice. What’s your favorite low-cost gear? I remember when I was first learning tennis, I came to the club in an all Nike outfit, a new racket, and new bag, and proceeded to look like a well-dressed idiot on the court. I remember the trainer commenting, “Mamaya na ja-porms. Gumaling ka muna!” and another coach telling me he learned how to play tennis with the flat side of a Tanduay bottle! Those have really stuck with me. Whenever I’m looking at gear, I can audibly hear that trainer taunting me, “Mamaya na ja-porms. Gumaling ka muna.” That was over 20 years ago! But you need these voices and stories in your head. You need to be reminded that it is not about what you have but about what you, yourself, can accomplish with whatever you already have. It’s not about how you look but about who you are. Notes: - These days, if anyone told someone that, he would run home, cry on his pillow, and tweet about how the world doesn’t support dreamers anymore - and completely miss the benefit of the criticism. Even worse, thousands of people will try to cancel that trainer and encourage Mr. Japorms that he’s valuable no matter what others say. The net result is a canceled trainer, a still unskilled Mr. Japorms, and a mob that moves on to pretend to care about the next trending “injustice”, already forgetting about the last cause. A complete waste of energy. When you’re criticized don’t run for a hug but run to training, run to study, and run to work ethic. - I still look like an idiot when I’m playing against @chasetinio but just no longer well-dressed. 😂

Ended this morning’s ride with a hot Chai Tea La Ended this morning’s ride with a hot Chai Tea Latte. There are so many things to do in the rain if you don’t mind getting wet. Notes: - Those small blue-green bottles are @zincwell disinfectants, which I bring everywhere. - My @rudyproject / @rudyprojectph helmet has been with me for well over a decade! My sunglasses are even crazier. I’ve sailed with them, rode motorcycles with them, fell down a hill with them, played tennis with them, run marathons with them, and have sat on them so many times. I love it when brands last and have repair parts and services. I love the mentality of fixing things when they’re broken not simply replacing them. - I’m not sponsored by anyone and not paid to say anything. My last sponsor was my mother, who was the absolute best. Now, I have to work,save up, and buy my own stuff. If it seems like I have much, it’s because I’ve been working my ass off, scrapping and saving what I can, and taking care of whatever I have so they last and add up. Don’t listen to these human billboards who tell you to buy all sorts of things. You don’t anything you don’t already have to live a wonderful life. You only need a mission to wake to, people to love, and adventure burning in your heart.

Breakfast of Champions • I don’t usually eat b Breakfast of Champions • I don’t usually eat breakfast but got caught in the rain on my walk home from the gym and was super hungry. My all-time favorite meal in @pancakehouseph is daing na bangus (milk fish), 4 eggs, half a cup of garlic rice (please make a half cup order), and a bacon waffle. 😬
There’s a beautiful plant called the Selenicereu There’s a beautiful plant called the Selenicereus Grand-something, the Queen of the Night, that only blooms for one night a year. I remember watching a video someone made of the flower blooming, and thinking about how beautiful it looked and why nature has these beautiful but temporary things. It was only later on that I realized that part of its beauty was its extreme finiteness. And it would be the inspiration for a chapter in a story I wrote (it’s on my blog), that goes: “I watch with the same joy that the end of the day brings: that as the sun sets a gratefulness wells-up at being privileged to even be a witness.” In the story, the protagonist losses someone dear to him and wrestles with having to let go, which is a reflection of what we have all gone through in one way or another, especially with all the loss this season has brought. Only when he let’s go of the bitterness of loss is he able to appreciate the beauty of memory. Something, I find I need reminding over and over again.
My current favorite painting at home is a 5x5 feet My current favorite painting at home is a 5x5 feet abstract made by mom, but I’m really really liking this one too @marieboni_art! Back when I didn’t have furniture and only had a few paintings hanging in my apartment, back when I couldn’t afford much (kinda like now 😂), one of my favorite ways to destress was to sit on the floor, look at the paintings, and imagine different stories - stories so far from the stress of the moment. My mom’s work has always had a very calming effect on me (along with Mezcal, Vodka, and Sake 😂). Looking at her art is a simple way for restless me to pause and take a break from whatever is going on. This is something I’ve sort of told her, but not in any special way. This made me think: You sometimes wonder whether all the work you’re putting into something is going to be worth it someday. You wonder whether all the hidden practice, all the unknown sacrifices, and all the unrecognized effort will bear fruit. I think this is where something like faith is so beautiful. Trusting, even without tangible proof, that your hidden excellence is producing great pleasure in wonderful ways, even if those ways are unknown to you.
