The two main things that stuck with me are: 1. Criminalizing something, even something “bad”, isn’t the only way nor the most effective way to curtail it. 2. When you impose virtue you will bring violence and breed vice. But where compassion is cultivated, beautiful things bloom.

Watercolor Practice. When practicing, I prefer to Watercolor Practice. When practicing, I prefer to work on basics. They’re so easy to forget. I normally paint abstract acrylics but want to be able to render some of concepts with watercolor, particularly more design like work for architecture and Gunpla. Whether I’m painting, writing a post, making a model, executing a trade, or giving a talk, I like to go back and identify my mistakes and what can be improved. It’s not very hard because usually there’s a lot of obvious things to work on. But this simple discipline really helps someone like me, who is so prone to mistakes, get better. #painting #watercolor #practice
Reviewing the @bridgesoutheast future-of-work port Reviewing the @bridgesoutheast future-of-work portfolio this morning. So excited for the future of @bridgepayday.ph and the growing list of clients we are privileged to serve! As I think about saints on All Saints Day, I think about the many many people who have contributed to the evolution of this humble venture. From @iamericwong (now running @workbase.ph), to @mshoneygeecarr (now killing it at @gushcloud_international), to @junn1e (who stabilized it through the craziness of the Covid Pandemic), to @kikaypinay (who has the most misleading IG username 😂), and too many others to mention. Building a company isn’t as simple as following formulas, the advice of so-called experts, or the predictions of analysts. If it were that simple, the most linear, most analytical, and most experienced in a field would win every time. But they don’t. They’re constantly caught blindsided trying to predict a future using only historical variables. Building a company is a dynamic activity, much like parenting, where success, especially great success, comes not from getting predictions right but by persevering longer and harder because you love the vision in your head, of how much better the world, even if it’s just your part of the world, will be if you succeed.
I never celebrated Halloween growing up but my wif I never celebrated Halloween growing up but my wife has very fun memories of dressing up and getting candy. So I suggested that @elijahbonifacio go as an Archangel, someone who is going to crush demons and bad guys. @yasminperucchetti very quickly put together this costume. I love the idea of warrior angels, not some silly Cupid. I like pretty much anything serious enough to fight. This is also why we (Banjo, Ken, John, Adrian, and Gino) called our Philippines-focused Impact Fund Archangel. We need people and organizations who are so serious about doing good, that they’re willing to fight for it. I still don’t get Halloween. Seems like a lot of ugly things for a lot of sugar. But the real world is a much scarier place and it needs forceful men to take hold of it.

@elijahbonifacio and I have been having a spaceshi @elijahbonifacio and I have been having a spaceship build contest with @yasminperucchetti as the judge. He’s has won all 5 rounds so far. I think our judge is biased. 😂 Mine can turn into 4 separate vehicles: the main spaceship, a tank, a scout vehicle, and a laser satellite. Elijah’s looks like a canoe. 😂
I haven’t seen Squid Game. I haven’t seen Quee I haven’t seen Squid Game. I haven’t seen Queen’s Gambit. I haven’t seen a lot of the trending things. But I did rewatch the original Gundam movie, the original Blade Runner, the classic Deer Hunter, and read the financial statements of 5 really old companies in the last few months, and that was a lot of entertainment already!

One of the things I’ve come to appreciate from m One of the things I’ve come to appreciate from my interactions with people I admire, are the rigors they allow themselves to undergo in order to master themselves and their craft. What starts out as an admiration of achievements, of end results, becomes an appreciation for the process of compounding consistent, deliberate, and very very very hard work under the pressure of very high personal standards. A businessman who doesn’t develop disciplined fundamentals, like the Believer who doesn’t develop a disciplined theology, or the Thinker who doesn’t develop a disciplined philosophy, or the Artist that doesn’t develop a disciplined workflow, will inevitably hit their ceiling sooner. All of this to say, study very very hard. Work very very long and hard. Wake up very very early. And do this every day. Someday, when you discover a that great beautiful picture in your head worth pursuing, you will be a man ready to pursue it.
