Something I’ve benefited from is following a mor Something I’ve benefited from is following a morning routine. Everyone is different, so different routines work for different people. I’m sharing mine to give you some ideas for your own beneficial routine. By doing the same things over and over, I’m able to remove the guess work, able to improve my practices, and able to stabilize the day from the start. For someone as busy and prone to mistakes as me, I can only imagine how many disasters my morning routine has prevented. While I’ve added variation through the years, this routine is basically the same one I practiced as a very young man. I’m glad my parents taught me the importance of this discipline through the consistency of their own mornings. Something I hope to the able to pass on to @elijahbonifacio someday. . I really like to maximize the available technology but in fitness the technology (the hardware and software), is only as good as the person’s own hardware (the body) and software (his soul, his mind, will, and emotions). Combine technology and tenacity, digital and discipline, intelligence and intensity, and you’ll see better results. Success, after all, has nothing to do with having the latest phone or signing up for the trending workout, but everything to do with training to be in better shape than you were before. Getting Covid killed all the physical gains I made last year but it didn’t affect the more important part, the mental discipline and the mental gains of knowing that if the so-called worst couldn’t get me, then I can push myself further. Push yourself this year. Throw away this “wait and see” attitude. Stop intellectualizing your lack of dynamism. Stop using the best excuses available. Every now and then someone or some organization ma Every now and then someone or some organization makes a list of the most influential work “gurus”. I recently saw one and as I clicked through the names and read many of the ideas they were promoting, I grew more and more concerned with the state of our workforce. While I don’t question the motives of these people, I do strongly disagree with much, if not most, of what they were saying simply because they lead to fragility not antifragility. As Nassim Taleb explained: “Some things benefit from shocks; they thrive and grow when exposed to volatility, randomness, disorder, and stressors and love adventure , risk, and uncertainty. Yet, in spite of the ubiquity of the phenomenon, there is no word for the exact opposite of fragile. Let us call it antifragile. Antifragility is beyond resilience or robustness. The resilient resists shocks and stays the same; the antifragile gets better.” Are you fragile and easily shaken? Do you always feel let down by the advice and formulas give to you? You are fragile. Don’t you want to get better even when things around you get worse? This is why I’m putting together lists of contrarian advice. I literally click on one of these guru’s links, read what they have to say, and comment on it, and it just so happens to usually contradict. 😂 I’m now grateful to these lists. I like to use Peter Drucker’s 5 Most Important Questions list, and it’s something we go back to as a team every week! Our best decisions are made when there’s team clarity over these 5 questions. I remember one example at the height of COVID-19 fear, when we decided to support clients by finding ways to aid their cashflow. It was very difficult. But we exist for a mission, and that mission means providing specific value to specific customers, so we find ways. All the rules, policies, best practices, compliance, and traditions must support the mission and bring great value to customers not the other way around. Focus on the fundamentals.
