Like the rest of life, many times what you have is all you need, and it’s those who can maximize what they have - not those who have a lot - who succeed. While I was running, I thought about just how much this place, Bonifacio Global City, has changed. 15-16 years ago, I used to be able to run across wide open fields and not bump into people. Now it’s an amazing and busy community. 14-16 years ago I used to eat only one meal of 4 eggs, a protein shake, and a salad. 14-16 years ago I used to wonder where my next paycheck would come from. 14-16 years ago I used to worry whether I would make my mortgage payments. 14-16 years ago I used to uselessly stress over the wrong relationships. 14-16 years ago I used to feel like my life and career decisions were so wrong and that I my trajectory would end in failure. 14-16 years ago, I stopped listening to my doubts because there were just way too many, and I took control over my thoughts. Enjoyed a candid conversation this morning with @iamericwong @jannadeguzie @jj.jmz and @fsparks30 on managing their respective workloads, teams, and ventures. I came away with so many insights and took a lot of notes. I’ve really come to appreciate the insights we pick up from simple, casual, open conversations. It made me realize that I want less meetings and more conversations, less agendas and more connections. Organizations, teams, and leaders are going to have to be very deliberate and mindful of how they’re going to direct and develop their teams in a post-Covid world. They have to be very resourceful and creative, and more original too, not asking “What are the best practices?” but “What are the best practices for us?” Not relying on old conventions and biases, but looking to new and better ways. I love this painting. And I love the story of how I love this painting. And I love the story of how it came to me. This is part of a larger 5ft x 4ft painting I found in storage gathering dust. As soon as I saw it, I asked if I could have it and took it home. Even in its dirty state, I really liked its depth, how it invited me to enter the painting and get lost in its woods. Cleaning off the dust revealed brilliant colors and layers of details. During the days when I gave away most of my possessions, I would sit on the floor and follow the path into the trees to escape from the pressures of the day. But the most important detail of this painting is who the artist is: my mother. I thought about that earlier this evening. Now that I’m a parent myself, it’s easy to wonder whether we’re doing a good job. It’s very comforting to be reminded that even from our dusty forgotten work, our sons and daughters may draw some value.
